游戏特色
内政系统
内政系统是游戏的基础，这个系统里包含着一个国家的各种基本信息，主要包括国家凝聚力、政治点数、人力资源、工厂、三军经验值、运输船以及世界紧张度。
研发系统
研发系统主要负责国家或者阵营的科技发展。加入科研阵营后可以减少科技研究时间。提前研究会增加时间惩罚。根据剧本的历史设定，每个国家拥有对应的科技水平。这里展现的是研究科技树，总共分为11个门类。
建筑系统
建设方面可以给本国民用工厂指派任务，建造基础设施、新工厂，以及防御工程等。民用工厂可以完善国家状态。可建设的工厂的数量取决于国家的大小，在游戏中可以决定使用多少工厂用来生产日用消费品，有多少工厂用来交易战略资源。
资源系统
钢铁雄心4中文版里的物品道具主要为进出口资源以及点数和经验值。资源包括:石油、铝、橡胶、钨、钢铁和铬。政治点数和三军经验值属于行政和军事方面的消耗品。
战斗系统
战斗系统主要是通过计划作战打击敌人，占领地方领土。
成就系统
成就分为本体成就与DLC成就。
游戏模式
单人模式里分为铁人模式和非铁人模式。铁人模式下可以获得成就，但不允许手动存档，游戏进行到一定时间会自动存档。非铁人模式里允许手动存档和读档，但不能获得成就。游戏只能从1936年的剧本开始才能获得成就，1939年的剧本无法获得成就。难度分为征召、标准和老兵。
多人模式下可以同Steam平台上的众多玩家一起联机，多人游戏需要创建房间，通过输入特定的房间ID或者启用“热加入”可以让其他玩家入场游玩。多人模式下无法启用铁人模式，无法获得成就。多人模式里可以选择两名玩家同时操纵一个国家的发展。可以独立操纵一个国家，也可以自定义国家。
